Dental health is of primary importance if you want to keep infections and diseases at bay. What we learnt during our elementary years still applies and doesn’t require much work. The key is to keep our entire mouths clean to ward off bacteria and other germs. It’s a known fact that poor dental hygiene can cause periodontal diseases but not many of us bother about our oral health until something goes wrong. When we eat, particles get lodged on and between our teeth. If left unattended to, it can lead to plaque build-up which eventually leads to tartar.

Periodontal disease is a type of gingivitis which causes inflammation of the gums. It can be painful and if left untreated, can lead to more complications. The final outcome is teeth loss which is expensive to replace. Hence, proper oral hygiene can keep such problems at bay, all for a fraction of the cost of full dental treatment.

Luckily there are gum disease treatment available. Though expensive, they can help cure such diseases and give your teeth and gums a new lease of life. The first step is to go for non-invasive therapy where the dentist will perform scaling. Next, your dentist may prescribe going for a root planning procedure to further remove tartar build-up. You’ll probably be advised to take medications like antibiotics so that harmful enzymes don’t destroy your gum tissues.

If your condition doesn’t respond to non-invasive procedures, you may need to undergo flap surgery. If that doesn’t work, then the dentist may have to change your bone’s contour. If your gums have receded to the point where your teeth look longer than normal, you should ask your dentist if you need to undergo soft tissue grafting.

Instead of spending hundreds of dollars on treating periodontal disease, it is far cheaper and better to practice good oral hygiene. Regular brushing and flossing are easy and cheap and can keep away a myriad of diseases. Why go for gum disease treatment when there’s so much you can do to prevent its onset? Team your regimen with a healthy diet and there’s no reason why you should fall victim to periodontal disease.
